Subrata Roy – A man you just can’t ignore.

Subrata Roy is a man that you can hate or love (intensely) but you simply cannot ignore. The man has built a multi-billion dollar international empire through sheer hard work, determination and good will – all of them qualities that we look for in people as a sign of their inherent good nature. Why then, you may ask is such a man languishing by falling out-of-favor especially in the media glare. There is no simple answer to that query. However, in all of the hoopla surrounding the fiasco, one thing is for sure and that is that Subrata Roy has never publically spoken in detail about his take on the whole fiasco.
While you may debate about why he chose to keep mum on the issue, again you have to admit that there are no easy answers in this situation. But there’s finally a silver lining in sight – Subrata Roy is releasing his memoir (finished by him in jail) today called ‘Life Mantras’. The book is essentially Subrata Roy’s self-help gift to the world wherein he waxes eloquent on some of the virtues and ethics that he followed throughout his life including his dizzying success. It sheds light on some of his life philosophies as well. And last but not the least; the book also has some accounts of his time spent building his company from scratch.

For a man who spent 37 years of his life building his business empire, it seems really unfair that all of it could come crashing down in a mere span of months. However, it seems that Subrata Roy is a very resilient man. He has shown virtually no signs of weakness and the loyalty that his company commanded has only marginally diminished. Reading his book will give us a better sense of what goes on in the making of a multi-billion dollar empire and also inside one of India’s greatest entrepreneur’s mind.

Subrata Roy finally breaks his silence

The name Subrata Roy triggers really passionate responses and reactions in people. It doesn’t matter whether you think that the man is a modern day prophet or the greatest impostor on Earth, your reaction is going to be passionate. However, our reactions have only been based on the media’s perspective of the case; we haven’t had a chance to hear from the man at the center of this giant whirlpool, until now.
Subrata Roy has surprised the world (again) with the release of the first book in his three-part memoir – ‘Life Mantras’, today. The book is a take on Subrata Roy’s life affirmations and the wisdom he has gained throughout his colorful and eventful life. It was written by him on/off for a few years but finished during his recent incarceration at Tihar jail- Asia’s largest prison. The foreword of the book (written by Subrata himself) goes on to explain Subrata’s intention with this book. In it he mentions how he never pursued business management in the conventional sense and instead focused on ‘human management and understanding human life in totality’.
The book also promises to shed some light on the time spent by the Sahara honcho in his jail cell and how he went about dealing with the ‘emotional outrage’ he felt at the time. We finally get to hear from the man who ‘started his company in 1978 with a capital of Rs.2000 and just 3 workers’. His point of view or perspective about life has never been fully echoed in public and that is why this book- launch matters, it gives voice to Subrata Roy’s opinions once and for all.

A recent alarming trend that I have observed is the propensity of the public to disregard any previous achievements of a person and also declaring a person guilty or not (based on media reports) before the court has decided on a final verdict. It is especially appalling if the person in question has not had a chance to put his perspective across. This book launch is Subrata Roy’s chance of putting his perspective out in the public. And it should be respected just like you would respect any other citizen’s right to voice his/her opinions.

Why I want to read Subrata Roy’s book titled Life Mantras

A wise person once said, “situations can make or break you”. You can either let the situation affect you and your outlook or you can see how to make the most of it. Life Mantras written by Saharasri Subrata Roy isn’t an autobiography but rather a philosophy of sorts derived from his current as well as past life scenarios. Having been imprisoned since 2014, Subrata Roy has indeed faced hardships. The judicial case launched against him has not only shaken his empire but also the perception people have of him. It may seem hard to form an idea of who Saharasri really is but as the saying goes ‘as a man thinketh so he is’. Life Mantras is Saharasri Subrata Roy’s reflection of his mind and the life experiences/ jewels that he dwells on. Being in jail may have confined him physically but Subrata decided that four walls could not confine his free-spirited mind and his generous heart to share his knowledge with the world. Managing a business as large as Sahara India not only helped Subrata Roy perfect his business skills but also helped him gather knowledge on understanding human life. Having successfully managed over 12 lakh workers under him he also strove to implement his philosophy of ‘Collective Materialism’, which propagates collective growth. Although now in jail and not heading his employees, Subrata has not stopped putting forward this philosophy and has completed a trilogy titled Thoughts from Tihar. The books in this trilogy are titled as Life Mantras, Think with Me, and Reflections from Tihar, all of which are philanthropic in nature and shed light on how to have a more fulfilling life full of happiness, contentment, and peace. Although not an autobiography, his book talks of his real-life experiences and involves you in their rawness. It may seem as one among many books but I’d like to hear the thoughts of a man who has gone through so much and still chooses to follow his philanthropic heart.

He laid the foundation of Sahara India in 1978 with a capital of only Rs.2000, and within a short span of 37 years this company is worth of Rs.1,80,000 crores. Now, even in his times of adversity he hasn’t given up. He believes in himself completely and thus he looks forward to achieve more and more success each day of his life. He has been a guardian to over 1.2 million fellow workers, and so he credits his success to his philosophy of ‘Collective Materialism’.
Everyone faces hardship and obstacles in life. It's a matter of how you learn to overcome the obstacles and look forward towards growth. Learn to face the challenges in life, believe in yourself, and rise up with self-confidence like the pioneer of the great Sahara India Pariwar, Subrata Roy.
