Sahara India Pariwar picks Lucknow Franchisee of “Indian Badminton League”

Lucknow, July 16, 2013: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, has created another milestone today by announcing to become one of the prime franchisee of the ‘Indian Badminton League’ (IBL), which is to be started by Badminton Association of India (BAI). The Indian Badminton League (IBL) will comprise of 6 teams which will play amongst each other. This will have Indian as well as foreign players. Sahara India Pariwar, will be the owner of the Lucknow franchise. Moreover, by taking up this franchisee, Sahara India Pariwar intends to encourage young talents of this great game of skill and energy, thereby giving them a platform to nurture their skills under the supervision of talented sportsmen.

Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara receives Honorary Doctorate of Business from University of East London

            University of East London has 28000 students
London, July 09, 2013: In a special ceremony of the University of East London on Sunday, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in central London, before an audience consisting of University of East London (UEL) staff, governors and students; and a number of distinguished guests from industry, political life and sport along with members of Sahara family, Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar, has being conferred with the award of Doctor of Business honoris causa.

Professor Lord Patel of Bradford said in his citation that, "Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara is a man who has made an absolutely immense contribution to the world of business, to sport, to the enhancement of education and to social and community development, to his country as well as other parts of the world, and to an abundance of philanthropic activities that are simply too numerous to mention."

Lord Gulam Noon, Chancellor of the University of East London conferred the award upon Saharasri saying; "That the event was a unique occasion. It is unique because this is the first degree that I am awarding any student in my new role as Chancellor of this university. It is unique because the award of this honorary doctorate is being given to a unique student - a student of life.”

He further said, “Subrata Roy Sahara, as one businessman to another - I am impressed with your contribution to the world of business.  As one philanthropist to another I am more than impressed with your immense contribution to our fellow human beings who are less fortunate than us.”

Sahara India Pariwar continues its incessant relief work in Uttarakhand

Today additional relief material dispatched to the Guptkashi and Laksar for more than 20,000 people

·         Till now over 5000 people of remote areas have benefitted from free medical aid by Sahara  
·         Ready to eat food packets, safe drinking water, solar lanterns, blankets, bleaching powder and chlorine tablets are being provided free of cost  
Lucknow, July 1, 2013: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate of India as a part of its continues endeavors to provide relief to the flood victims of Uttrakhand has so far extended free medical aid to more than 5000 people residing in remote and flood affected areas of Uttarakhand. The medical aid has also been provided to the aggrieved pilgrims who have been stuck up in the region. Today relief materials for more than 20,000 people have been dispatched to the Guptkashi and Laksar. Sahara is providing ready to eat food packets, safe drinking water, solar lanterns, blankets, bleaching powder and chlorine tablets free of cost, under its relief measures.    
    
The region, particularly of Uttarkashi and Tehri which has been badly devastated due to massive flood which triggered the landslides have been accessed by the doctors and the Medical Health Unit (MHU) vans of Sahara India Pariwar. 25 medical health unit vans equipped with doctors, pharmacists, free medicines and basic testing equipments have been able to make their way to the remotest parts of the region despite of bad or almost no road connectivity and damaged bridges. Health experts of Sahara India Pariwar treated over 5000 patients most of whom were suffering from Gastrointestinal Tract (GI tract), Skin Diseases, Cold & Cough, Fever, etc.     

Sahara is working in close coordination with State Disaster Mitigation Management Centre and extending its support continuously to the flood affected areas. In addition to the continuing relief support from Sahara, Mr. Ashok Roy Choudhury, Executive Director and Mrs. Kumkum Roy Choudhury, Executive Director, Sahara India Pariwar have also offered all other possible assistance to Mr. Surendra Singh Negi, Health Minister of Uttarakhand. Sahara is also providing more than 20 tons of the bleaching powders and chlorine tablets to the district administration.  


For the rehabilitation of the local populace Sahara has already announced to construct 10,000 pre-fabricated houses based on latest technology (which will be better in every aspect as compared to conventional houses build in hills), under rehabilitation programme. The pre-fabricated houses will be built at places as allotted by local administration. Besides, Sahara will also provide complete food and household items every month to 10,000 families for months and years, depending upon the need of these poor families.

Lucknow, June 23, 2013: Uttarakhand region of our beloved country has been struck with the massive natural disaster. Sahara India Pariwar, as a part of its duties, has come forward to extend all possible support to the people of Uttarakhand. We are initiating immediate relief measures and long-term relief measures at the affected places, for our affected fellow Indians.

Immediate Relief Measures which will start in next 48 hours

1.    Sahara India Pariwar will provide more than 1 lac Sahara Q Shop pure drinking water bottles, more than 1 lac juice bottles and food packets along with candles and match boxes. In the same direction, work has already been initiated wherein we have set-up camps to distribute material.
2.    We are immediately deploying 25 medical health unit vans equipped with doctors, pharmacists, free medicines and basic testing equipments. The deployed medical team will continue to provide its services for months henceforth till the requirement exists.
3.    Sahara will also provide complete food and household items every month to 10,000 families for months and years, depending upon the need of these poor families.
4.    We are immediately deputing 1,000 Sahara Volunteers from our workforce to carry out the relief and rescue operations. Besides, if deemed required by the local administration, we will offer many-many thousands more of Sahara Volunteers for the relief and rescue work. Sahara is also in talks with local administration for any other support which can be provided.
5.    We shall also distribute blankets and other relief materials to the affected people.
6.    We will distribute 10,000 Solar Lanterns with hand crank and mobile charger facility, with cranking facility the lantern can be charged manually.
7.    We are also setting up a Help Line number where every possible help will be given to the affected people. The Help Line Number is 1800 180 9090.

Sahara India Pariwar flags-off 1000 village adoption project

VEDAS project will fully adopt villages for overall development, directly benefiting 25 lakh Rural Indians in 7 States



With the flag-off of the VEDAS, the project gets launched in 172 villages of Kannauj (U.P.) and Araria (Bihar) Districts

Lucknow, June 10, 2013: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate of India, today flagged off VEDAS, its 1000 village full adoption programme. VEDAS project was flagged by ‘Saharasri’ Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker and Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar today, along with launching of project in 172 villages at districts Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh and district Araria in Bihar. Under VEDAS, Sahara is fully adopting 1000 villages for holistic and sustainable overall development.  The project aims to cover 4.5 lakh rural households, touching the lives of 25 lakh people of 7 States. 

Under VEDAS, Sahara will undertake numerous initiatives which include providing Safe Drinking Water through Water Purification Plants and distributing it through Water ATMs, imparting Joyful Education through more than 500 Education Resource Centers with smart interactive classrooms equipped with high end Q Cloud technology. Free Primary Health Care will be provided to all villages on regular basis through fleets of Mobile Health Unit (MHU) vans. This will be augmented with Medical Center for serious cases at Central Point Village, with each center catering to a cluster of around 50 villages within its immediate vicinity. To empower people of the villages, Sahara is setting up Empowerment Centers at each Center Point Village. The centers will impart training and will have workplace equipped with food & beverages processing units, machines for traditional Household goods manufacturing, facility to make local craft products and products based on local resources. Besides, it will help all small and big farmers increase their land yield through its teams of highly qualified agriculturists. For all round sanitation, community awareness and advocacy program will be initiated and community toilets will be renovated. Sahara will also provide assistance in safe migration to people going to big cities for opportunities. Under VEDAS, Solar Powered Lanterns will be distributed to 4.5 lakh families of these villages, so that they have a healthy and eco-friendly source of lighting.

Sahara is also providing monthly financial assistance is also provided to the families of the Martyrs of the Mumbai Nov '08 terror attack, Dantewada Massacre and to the families of Kargil War Martyrs. Today, it provides, monthly financial assistance to 320 families of martyrs.

Sahara India Pariwar honours Indian medal winners of London Olympics 2012


·         Pure gold medals of 3kg and 2kg were given to every Indian winning silver and bronze medal respectively in the London Olympics
Lucknow, October 31, 2012: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, today honoured the Indian sportspersons who won medals in the recently held London Olympics, in a grand felicitation ceremony organised at Sahara Shaher, Lucknow. Prior to the commencement of the London Olympics, Sahara India Pariwar, in July this year, had announced to award medals of pure gold of 5 Kg, 3 Kg and 2 Kg to every Indian winning gold, silver and bronze medal respectively in the London Olympics 2012. In pursuance of the said announcement, a ceremony was organised to award medals to the Indian Olympic winners. The ceremony witnessed the awarding of a big 3 kg medal of pure gold to the sportsmen who won silver medal in London Olympics 2012, namely, Shri Vijay Kumar (Shooting) and Mr. Sushil Kumar (Wrestling), whereas 2 Kg medals of pure gold were awarded to the Indian sportspersons - Shri Gagan Narang (Shooting), Ms. Saina Nehwal (Badminton), Ms. Mary Kom (Boxing) and Shri Yogeshwar Dutt (Wrestling) for winning bronze medal in the London Olympics 2012. The awards were presented to the sportspersons by Shri Akhilesh Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh, amongst the presence of many dignitaries from across all walks of life.
A cultural programme was also held as a part of the ceremony which included some memorable performances by Shri Sonu Niigaam and Shri Shiamak Davar’s troupe.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Akhilesh Singh Yadav, said, “I would like to congratulate the sportspersons who have brought laurels to our nation on an international level. I would, first of all, like to thank Saharasri Ji for honoring these talented sportspersons by inviting them to Lucknow and adorning them with huge medals of Gold. I am feeling as happy as I used to feel while watching them on Television.”

In the past, we have seen that no other organization has supported sports as Sahara has done. This time also, I am extremely overwhelmed by his gracious blessings. This fact was echoed all the other sportspersons present during the ceremony.
With the objective of developing sports in India and securing better prospects for India in terms of medals tally in the London Olympics, Sahara India Pariwar, adopted Indian Boxing, Wrestling, Archery, Shooting, Track & Field and Tennis, covering support of a total of 101 sportsmen in these 6 games who were potential medal winners. Apart from this, Sahara has also extended support to the Indian Volleyball by sponsoring the Men’s National Teams (Senior & Junior) for a span of 4 years till 2016.
